Balscadden Beach, Howth

Not sandy. Great views of Ireland’s Eye from the water, and the cliffs in Howth.

Access is done by a steep set of steps. You can find Balscadden Beach by walking from Howth Harbour, go to the end of the harbour past King Sitric and continue walking up the hill for a couple of minutes. You will see a gate and steps shortly after a small block of apartments. An ominous danger sign makes it clear that you are here at your own risks!

The beach is lovely and easy to get into the water, regardless of tide times. However at low tide you will find yourself wading through quite a lot of seaweed.

If you feel you are being watched while you are in the water, you are right. The beach is popular with seals too and you will see their heads up a mere 100 metres away. They are amused at the spectacle of human animals but keep their distance.

The view of the bay and Ireland’s Eye is magical from the sea. In summer, the nearby rocky outpost is popular with the more adventurous divers.
