Preview: Draft Legal Sprint Distance National Champs

by | 19 Aug 2022 | General

Next week, draft legal racing will return to the Phoenix Park for the first time in four years with the 2022 Sprint Distance National Championships at Vodafone Dublin City Triathlon.

A single draft-legal race with €10,000 in prize money to crown the 2022 senior and junior Sprint Distance National Champions!

Scroll down to the bottom of the page for the start lists but first here’s all you need to know about the National Champs.

WHO CAN TAKE PART?

The draft-legal Sprint Distance National Championships will be run alongside the main race at Vodafone Dublin City Triathlon but please note – they are separate events with separate titles up for grabs.

We know it can be confusing so here’s the lowdown.

Age Group Sprint Distance National Champs & Triathlon National Series

The Age Group Sprint Distance National Champs & Triathlon National Series race at Vodafone DCT is the main mass participation race.

The overall male and female winners of the “Age Group Sprint Distance National Champs & Triathlon National Series” race will win the Sprint Distance National Championship for their Age Group, and the Triathlon National Series race.

If you would like to compete to win a Sprint Distance Age Group National Championship, or to earn Triathlon National Series Points, you must enter the “Age Group Sprint Distance National Champs & Triathlon National Series” event at Vodafone Dublin City Triathlon on the Triathlon Ireland race calendar here.

And don’t forget this year’s DCT is also a qualification race for TriTeam Ireland racing in 2023

Draft-legal Sprint Distance National Championships

The draft-legal Sprint Distance National Championships is still open to anyone but is aimed at athletes who race internationally or have ambitions to do so.

The 2022 Sprint Distance National Champions and Junior National Champions will be the winners of the draft legal race. There will not be any age group prizes awarded from the draft legal race.

Juniors and seniors will start and race together and there is nothing stopping a junior athlete from winning the race outright, in which case he or she will take home the overall title, the junior title and the prize money!

THE PRIZE FUND

One of the biggest ever prize funds for a senior National Championship race will be on offer for those who reach the podium of the draft legal race – a massive €10,000!

THE JUNIOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

Athletes from the age of 16 – 19 can enter to compete for the Junior National Championship. Junior athletes will start with the draft-legal Sprint Distance National Championship men’s and women’s waves.

Junior athletes wishing to take part in the draft-legal race should enter “Sprint Distance National Champs (Draft Legal) @ Vodafone Dublin City Triathlon” on the Triathlon Ireland race calendar here.
